Last minute winter sun getaway deals
If the dark nights and chilly days are beginning to grow tiresome, we don’t need to suffer them in this day and age. With competition increasing, travel companies are offering knock-down prices to lure Brits away when we need sunshine the most. It means that we can get some much-needed respite from the British winter, all while enjoying the cultural and climatic riches of another destination.
Whether it’s a short-haul trip for more bearable temperatures or a far-flung holiday deal that you’re tempted by, we’ve searched high and low to bring the best bargains to you. Remember, we’re completely independent and don’t profit from these recommendations – simply put, we’re happy when you’re happy.
So here are the Citybond team's bargains for winter sun, correct at the time of going to press.
Where better to escape the dreary grey of the UK than the Sunshine State itself? While Florida used to be a pricier destination, there’s a good deal to be had for those who search it out. Try the Sheraton Vistana Villages Hotel, which comes with a flight from London Gatwick for £661 per person with TravelRepublic – down from the usual price of £764. Each room features a kitchenette, so you can save the pennies by making some meals, while exploring the surrounding area for dinner. Or spend full days out at Universal Studios or Disney World, which are only a half-hour drive away.
While Cyprus in winter might not be searingly hot, at a respectable average of 17C and only one in three days bringing a light amount of rain in certain areas, it makes for a great winter getaway. Good news, then, that TravelZoo is offering an all-inclusive holiday with flights for just £299 per person. You’d be staying at the Coral Beach Hotel, a five-star luxury property, and you’ll get a sea view room too. Travel any time between January and March for this 40% saving.
In Cancun not only are the beaches among the finest in the world - with golden sand, golden sunsets and clear blue waters completing the picture - but there’s also plenty to explore in the environs. Take a day trip to the ancient Mayan site of Tulum, or find a cenote (a naturally formed pool) to enjoy a splash-about. We rated it as a great place to go in December, but in January it’s still a toasty 28C - perfect for a stay at the Occidental at Xcaret with Thomas Cook. Stay seven nights for £1006 per person – and there’s £100 off if you use the offer code ‘Winter’. It’s all-inclusive, so go wild on the guac.
Thought a Vitamin D jaunt to India was out of reach? There’s a hefty 52% off a Goa holiday with First Choice – £602 per person will buy flights from Manchester and an all-inclusive week at the enviable Heritage Village Club. The hotel features a large pool with a swim-up pool bar to order complimentary cocktails, or enjoy some time on the beach, a quick five-minute walk away. And never mind the sun – the real heat can be found in the food. For a fiery feast, try the south Indian buffet in Chutney’s or the a la carte restaurant of Mango. Not to your tastes? They also serve freshly-caught seafood, Mediterranean meals, and so much more.
Ah, the Algarve. Whichever season of the year, it’s beautiful, it’s near and it has better weather than the UK. The most important boxes ticked, we’ve stumbled on an excellent deal from LoveHolidays: for £79 per person (that’s a saving of £46), you’ll get flights from Birmingham and seven nights at the self-catering accommodation of Studio 17 by Atlantic Hotels. It’s not The Ritz, but given it’s a week’s holiday for the price of a week’s grocery shop, we wouldn’t turn our nose up at it. There’s a pool in the complex, the beach is a 20-minute walk away, and in between, there are numerous authentic Portuguese restaurants on which to spend the savings.
Wherever you plan on heading to this winter it’s good to know that Citybond Suretravel is committed to providing you with the highest level of protection to ensure you are safe and secure 24 hours a day when away.
